Dallas Baptist University

Dallas Baptist University (DBU), established in 1898 and located in Dallas, Texas, is a four-year Catholic institution. Originally Decatur Baptist College, DBU now has approximately 4,400 students, with international students making up about 10-15% of the population. The university, known for its small class sizes, employs 132 full-time professors, maintaining a low student-to-faculty ratio of 13:1. DBU's graduate programs support international students in working from day one under the CPT program. The main campus is conveniently located in southwest Dallas, making it easily accessible for students residing in Dallas, typically within a 20-minute commute.

DBU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), one of the six regional accrediting bodies in the United States. Its business school has also earned the prestigious ACBSP accreditation. Currently, DBU is ranked 19th among the best educational institutions in Texas by niche.com. The university offers 36 graduate programs, 45 dual degree graduate programs, and 2 doctoral programs, covering fields such as Business, Communication, Counseling/Psychology, Education, and Ministry.

Academic Policy

DBU offers three semesters annually: Fall, Spring, and Summer.
- The Summer semester is shorter, requiring only a 3-credit CPT course. However, if the Summer semester is your first semester at DBU, you are required to take one additional 3-credit course.
- For Fall and Spring semesters, students must take the CPT course plus two other courses (6 credits).

CPT Policy

Dallas Baptist University (DBU) provides CPT work authorization for international students in accordance with USCIS regulations. Eligible international students can obtain CPT authorization from their first day of enrollment.

CPT Application: Complete the CPT application online and submit the required documents such as job offer letter and CPT Agreement. Once your CPT is approved, you will receive a new I-20. With the new I-20, you can work from the first day of the program.
Special Requirement: For initial F-1 students and change of status applicants, only the MS Information Technology Management – Professional Track supports Day 1 CPT. If you enroll in other programs, you must wait until your third semester to start using CPT.

On-Site Policy

DBU requires students to attend on-site sessions once every 2 weeks, which are held during weekday nights or weekends.

Vacation Policy

The Summer term is a shorter semester, during which students may choose to take a break. During the break, you only need to take a 3-credit CPT course.

2. Submit Application Documents:

Academic Transcripts: official transcripts from all educational institutions you have attended, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Diploma: highest degree diplomas.
Resume: current personal resume.
Foreign Transcript Evaluation: provide a foreign transcript evaluation (if applicable).
English Proficiency Test: can be waived if you hold a U.S. degree.
- TOEFL: 79 or above
- IELTS: 6.0 or above
- Duolingo: 110 or above
Financial Documentation: a bank statement (minimum of $33,000) within the past three months.
Immigration Documentation:
- Copy of Passport
- Current I-94
- F-1 Visa (if applicable)
- Current I-20 (if applicable)
- I-797 Notice (if applicable)
- EAD Card (if applicable)
Personal Statement: can be waived for students who have worked or studied in the U.S.
Two Letters of Recommendations: from your professors, supervisors, or colleagues.

It usually takes 14 business day to receive the result after submitting the application. If you’re in emergency, please contact us. We will assist with expediting the application, which can help you receive the offer and transfer SEVIS within 3 days.

3. SEVIS Transfer (for OPT students): After receiving your admission letter, reach out to DSO to coordinate the SEVIS transfer timing and complete the required forms to transfer SEVIS to DBU.
