Academic Policy

  • Trine University has three semester each year, consisting of Fall, Spring, and Summer terms.

  • The Summer term is a shorter session, which is about two months, while the Fall and Spring terms are longer, typically around three and a half months each, divided into Term 1 and Term 2.

  • International students are required to enroll in at least two courses per semester, totaling a minimum of six credits. They have the option to choose one Hybrid course with onsite classes and one entirely online course. Students are required to attend one on-site session per Term.

  • Under the current policy, Trine University no longer permits students to enter or leave the U.S. during the semester. Travel is only allowed during vacation periods, as leaving or entering the country during the semester will affect the student's SEVIS status.

* Caution: Trine University currently has a slow admissions cycle and takes a very long time to assist students in addressing RFE.

CPT Policy

All graduate degree programs at Trine are part of the Experiential track, which integrates internships or work as a component of the program. Therefore, international students are required to engage in internships or work through CPT, and they are eligible for CPT from their first day of enrollment.

  • Applying for CPT requires enrolling in an additional 0.5 credit course each semester. Students can renew their CPT authorization annually, which offers greater flexibility.

  • Required documents for CPT application include a personal information form, a company information form, an offer letter and a CPT agreement

* The week before the start of each semester is the peak period for CPT applications. It is recommended for students to submit their applications early to allow sufficient time for SEVIS Transfer and CPT application processing. If your application is submitted too late, the school cannot guarantee that you will be able to start your CPT on the first day of the semester.

On-Site Policy

  • The frequency of required onsite attendance is once per semester, scheduled for a weekend day from 8 am to 5 pm. If you plan to finish your program in 1 year, your on-site frequency would be twice per semester.

  • Attendance is mandatory for students; failure to attend onsite course will result in the termination of your F-1 status.

Vacation Policy

  • Students at Trine university have the option to apply for a break during the Summer semester (you can apply at any time without completing the first academic year).

  • During the Summer semester, students can take a 0.5 credit CPT course, allowing them to engage in full-time work through CPT.
